| The Antwerp Polo Club was established in 1906 under the
name of Cercle Sportif Antwerp Polo Club. The polo events
for the 1920 Summer Olympics were held at the grounds of
Hoogboom. The club was renamed the Antwerp Polo Club in
1936. The club’s glory days were between 1936 and 1939, but during the war the grounds were commandeered as a military airfield. In 1987 the club was re-established and the 13 ha of land - then being used as cornfields - were restored to the original state. Today, insiders regard this as one of Europe’s best polo grounds. These Olympic fields are now a protected site. |
